Re: Ye Olde Illustrations

I just wanted to chime in and say that Francisco's art absolutely, positively matches the heart and soul of BFRPG to a tee. I would love to see more of his work in reprints, re-do's, and new stuff. His style is perfect for BF

Village/ Town Encounters

How do you guys and gals do village/ town/ fort/ etc. encounters and such? I have found that coming up with a ton of NPC's and such is really time consuming and my players do not seem to be interested in interacting with them. At the beginning of our last session, I just hand them a map of the villa...

Re: Using grids for movement

It's fine to have a dragon in a dungeon. Just give him a big hole to fly out of somewhere. Also, I hope that the adventure you have is for really high level characters or that completing the adventure does not require slaying the dragon. Dragons are straight up deadly . . . even to high level charac...

Re: Using grids for movement

I wish that there was some instruction like in the Core Rules. Hopefully, a new edition some day will add in some practical suggestions concerning grid play. If I remember a brief discussion on these forums, years ago, Chris mentioned that grid play was not really thought about when creating the sy...

Re: Using grids for movement

I've had to live in learn. The one thing that I can say is do not get too legalistic with general movement. Just tell the players what they can see around them and ask them how far they want to go and HOW that they want to move (briskly, sneaking, run, etc.). Like others on this site have mentioned,...

Re: GM use of Geas and Quest in Morgansfort game

I personally do not see how that you make your players do something through a spell. I mean, I get the whole charm thing for a couple of rounds . . . but compelling them to go on a quest. But on further thought, I guess it could work. They would be compelled to do it but have to make choices of thei...

Re: Ability checks

Thanks. That's what I always try to do . . . think through the situation . . . with the players . . . to find out a process that seems right, fair, and suited to the situation. I like the little table that is included in the core rule book in that it incorporates a player's level. But of course, if ...

Re: Ability checks

Thanks a lot Chris. I really like the idea of a one die ability check and then using the different die sizes to differentiate the challenge. I like that.

Re: Ability checks

Nevermind. I went and read over the rule book a couple of times. I get it. It's not that hard to understand as it is printed in the rulebook (along with the table). I like the way that the rule book does it. It gives bonuses both for level and for any special ability. I've learned something today. W...

Re: Ability checks

You must have never strung a bow. It is not for the unitiated ;) Honestly, I do not even know what to make of the portion of the rule book that you just quoted. I do not understand what it is saying (it's like a foreign language). I think that is the reason why I came up with my own method. If any o...
