You roll your new HD and if its lower you increase your HP by 1.
Stars Without Number does this RAW. It's done, but not super common.

Re: Ravenloft 1e Character Levels

Levels are basically equivalent, and just sub monsters. A "correct" conversion will probably just get you what's already been done. You may have to convert the stats for the BBEG and other uniques, but there's not going to be anything radically different. There should be something around here for co...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG – Finnish translation

I'm not sure what "conditions" you are imagining other than what the spell text actually says. I believe the (rephrased, but mathematically equivalent) statement "If the roll is over their current hp then they will take at least 1 hp of damage," suggests that there might be some condition (albeit a...

Re: Hexcrawl procedures?

Depending on the terrain/vegetation of the hex being traversed, use the table below to calculate daily movement. Take the highest value of a hex’s terrain and vegetation. Example: to traverse a densely Forested Mountain side it would cost 18 Movement Points, not 36. Where did the value 36 come from...

Re: Turn Undead: How Often?

Do you just mean keeping track of time in general? I use, or have used a combination of these in the past. The time table was the first iteration and I found it handles all time scales fine, but that it was often fell short since I kept a calendar for long term things already, and needed more room f...

Re: Hexcrawl procedures?

Then we can simply assign Movement Point Costs to the different types of Terrain: Jungle,Mountain,Swamp: 18 Desert/Forest, Hills: 12 Clear, Plains, Trail: 6 Road (Paved): 4 The point cost for Desert, Forest, Hills should be 9 Rules as written, the point cost for Road (paved) should be 4.5, though I...

Re: Large Unit Engagements/Tactical Combat a la Squad Leader

There are a few relevant things buried around here somewhere... A search for "mass combat", or "domain rules" might prove fruitful. I also recommend checking out either S&W's mass combat rules, or By This Poleaxe which is either free, or really cheap (it's been a few years since I got my hands on it...

Re: New Class Idea: The Engineer

The Tech class from Engines and Empires might be helpful here. In the modern world, engineers are highly specialized. Historically, the kind of thing you’re talking about (Inventing gadgets, and developing new technology) would be done by craftsmen, who were also highly specialized (though to what e...

Re: Overland Travel Movement Rates

I'm assuming you're using a map with a one mile square grid. Assume your players have 24 movement points. Plain squares cost 2 points to cross, (12 miles per day) Forest squares cost 3 points (8 miles per day), Mountain squares cost 6 points (4 miles per day). This should work assuming there aren't ...
