Re: DoMF's James Smith has passed

Re: Would it be legal to write a advantage/disadvantage mechanic

There is no way to protect the mechanic of "roll two dice and pick the highest/lowest". If you want to be super-safe, call it something other than advantage/disadvantage (a thesaurus is a wonderful thing for clone writers). ;)

Re: New Project: Iron Falcon

I also reluctantly abandoned level titles, and I don't think the game really suffers - they were used instead of levels when there were only 3 classes and a few levels, but once you get beyond that it's tricky to remember what title means which class and level. That cover is a nice homage to Moldvay...

Re: New Project: Iron Falcon

Do you plan to add the rules about aerial and seaborne combat at some point? Because I've always liked those, especially the former, but they've always seemed a little clumsy to me. Re: New Project: Iron Falcon

'Tis a silly rule, as they say in Camelot. However, perhaps it could go into your optional rules section for those referees who just have to throw 100 kobolds at their players' 9th level characters?

Re: New Project: Iron Falcon

So there does seem to a gap in the line-up - well-spotted, Solomoriah! By the way, have you mentioned this on the OD&D Discussion forums? Um... no. Where would I find those? It's a great place for in-depth discussions of the original rules. Here it is: http://odd74.proboards.com/ And there's a ...

Re: New Project: Iron Falcon

The first version of D&D to hit the market, the three books,[...] Greyhawk [...] What's funny to me is that there are no retro-clones I can think of that attempt to replicate that game. In a way that would be similar to the game Holmes was trying to introduce new players to with his Basic Set, ...
