I'm reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
I'll refrain from offering anything like an opinion, as I'm only 100 pages in.
The last great book I read was Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.

Magic Users Throwing Oil
Hello BFRPG, Two sessions into my BFRPG campaign, and it's lots of fun. Using Morgansfort as a base and I designed my own at starter dungeon (fairly standard rescue the missing townsfolk from the goblins fare - though in this case the gobs are working for an evil cleric who is using townsfolk slave ...

Can a Dwarf (fighter) use a maul?
The rules say that a dwarf cannot employ a large weapon more than four feet in length, going on to specifically mention two handed swords, polearms, and longbows. What about a maul? Mauls are listed as large, and weigh quite a bit more than two handed swords. Can a dwarf use one? It seems wrong some...

I think it's great that you're playing with your wife and kids -- sounds like good parenting to me!

Re: Alternate spell disruption?
Dimirag, thanks for explaining segments to me. I've never played in a game that used them. Are segments an AD&D 1e concept? Back in the days of yore, when I played my own weird mix of BECMI and AD&D 2e, I ignored all of the nuances of casting time, spell disruption, you name it. It certainly...

Re: Alternate spell disruption?
I'm curious... why don't you like simultaneous actions? Pretty much what Sean said - we use minis and a grid, and just having discrete PC and monster turns keeps it simple for us (and admittedly more familiar, too.) It's possible that by omitting simultaneous actions but trying to come up with ways...

Re: Alternate spell disruption?
Thanks for all three very helpful replies! Regarding segments - is a segment just a round long? So, if you wish to cast a third level spell, it takes three segments which equals three rounds? Sean, I like the idea you bring up from C&C. Very simple and elegant - but that certainly would make it ...

Alternate spell disruption?
Hello there, In my BFRPG campaign, I'm using different initiative rules (roll initiative on d20, no simultaneous actions.) I would still like to incorporate some rule covering spell casting disruption - ie., when a caster takes damage and either loses a spell or at least has to make a concentration ...
