Re: Thought on expanding IF for my own games

Hi Chuck, you could pull them from the OD&D supplements (Assassin, Druid, Monk) and Strategic Review (Ranger, Illusionist). Those would be compatible with IF with no changes needed. Swords & Wizardry Complete is based on the same source material, so as noted above, that should work as well i...

Re: Druids Supplement

I noticed a problem with entangle. It does not have the holding effect it does in other editions, it merely slows down creatures caught in it, with a duration of 3 rounds/level. But the area of effect is very small (10'x10'), meaning most creatures won't be affected by it at all. Here is an example ...

Re: Small Party Adventure Modules

One of my current games has 3 players. I let them create two characters each, one the main character, the other a retainer, with the understanding that the retainer becomes the main character if the main character dies. This has worked well so far. I've done this as well, can confirm it works great...

Re: Anyone tried to play BFRPG on Roll20?

I've played BFRPG on Roll20 (along with other systems). I use pretty much the same process as teaman, and I'll add that the GM layer is good for little reminders about room contents, using the text entry tool.

Re: Any tips on running JN1 The Chaotic Caves?

The Halfling home is not too bad if the players take it one encounter location at a time and rest in between. The ruined castle with the orcs will be difficult simply because it is a defensible position for the orcs, so they have to be surprised or otherwise tricked to come out of the ruins. The ban...

Re: Solitaire BFRPG

That is a really great idea - I hadn't considered using the fog of war like that. If you get a chance let us know how it goes.

Re: Solitaire BFRPG

There was another thread recently with a similar question, and I suggested using the Wizardawn tools: https://www.basicfantasy.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3200#p65119 If you're looking to play alone, this is indeed possible and is a fun way to experiment with house rules or just get experienc...

[LFP] Open table BFRPG game in south-central Quebec

I'm running an open table BFRPG game next Sunday the 25th of November at the public library in Bromont, Quebec (37 chemin de Gaspé), from 10a-2p. It's a one-shot homebrew adventure, and I'll have pregens available.

Re: Solo campaigns?

If you're looking to play alone, this is indeed possible and is a fun way to experiment with house rules or just get experience running combat. The best way to do this is to go to http://wizardawn.and-mag.com, select Basic Fantasy in the 'Fantasy Game' dropdown, then click on 'Dungeon Door', pick a ...

Re: Complete Noobs Starting Point

I'll second the 'Role Playing Game Primer', it's a great introduction for both players and GMs. It might also be worthwhile searching youtube for recorded game sessions, there are many there for most old-school games and retro-clones (try searching for '<game system> actual play'). That way you can ...
