I use scratch paper myself, but I did notice some of the 5e pictures and streams of a group playing had the dm using some folded over cards or sticky notes lined up on top of his screen designating the initiative order seems like a nifty way to save some space and paper.

I provided my group (all first time players) with some graph paper and a bit of the dungeon that they had explored drawn on it to give them an idea of how they should map. They took to it really quickly, I also bought one of those wet erase chessex battle maps from amazon to help them with visualizi...

Ars Magica might be worth looking at, it seems to be well suited for pc's dropping in and out and the 4th edition rules are available for free.

Just saw Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, watching the beginning of that film and seeing Morgan Freeman's character gave me an itch to run an Arabian style campaign.

I'm a big fan of Mystara's Gazateer series even if you're not planning on using the actual setting there is so much in those books that you could use for your own setting.
