Re: Half Humans Supplement
Considering your comments in this thread and in the Monsters as Player Characters thread, I have to wonder, why are you here? It doesn't seem as if you think much of the game, or of the people who have created it. Perhaps you are right. I am not sure what I was supposed to see as the actual differe...

Re: Half Humans Supplement
I love how these are all very well-balanced against one another. They may not be worthwhile options when put next to some of the standard races, but put next to one another there is no feeling that one gets all the special abilities and another is left with nothing and told to like it. You deserve q...

Re: Monsters as Player Characters: A Basic Fantasy Supplement
You state that there are "fine examples of heroic versions" of these races. Where have you seen these examples? Is there a literary or mythic source for them? Because I might find reading such works entertaining. But the fact is, within the limitations of the existing game, Smoot has atte...

Re: Monsters as Player Characters: A Basic Fantasy Supplement
I think you have failed to realize something. When these stats were given to these particular monsters... Well, there had been a lack of development. You see, at the time the original designers worked primarily off Lord of the Rings. The opponets were not given any real development. The protagonist ...

Re: Monsters as Player Characters: A Basic Fantasy Supplement
There are three ways to look at the minus 1. 1) This monster would use d6s, but they are not going to break the general rule that all monsters use d8s for hit die. 2) The monster has a weak constitution score causing a penalty for the average member. Similarly, if a race has a plus 1, it likely indi...

Re: Monsters as Player Characters: A Basic Fantasy Supplement
So one's intention from the word go was not to actually increase player options, but to punish any player who would want to play a nonstandard race. Well, that says volumes right there, does it not? What sort of DM would intentionally force a subpar option on a player for the crime of daring to ever...

Re: Monsters as Player Characters: A Basic Fantasy Supplement
I think I see a few of these that could use a few adjustments. I won't review all, but maybe a few of my favorites. Goblins The -1 hit point on every sort of die regardless of class is a way too harsh penalty. They should have the same penalty as the Halfling and the Elf where they never roll higher...
