Re: [Light discussion] What do you imagine your iron rations as?

Hywaywolf has the game history right. Bully beef and hardtack, anyone? :D I think of it as drieds meats, hardtack, dried fruits, etc. No supplement from foraging or hunting needed, though successful foraging and/or hunting can stretch iron rations for a long time. Just as Aragorn on the way from Wea...

Re: Are Magic-Users Too Weak?

And you guys who thing magic users need more spells at 1st level... have you READ my blog post yet??? Because until you have, and have indicated the basis of your disagreement with my arithmetic, I honestly don't think you know what you're talking about. No offense intended. A first level magic use...

Re: Who to deal with players who put alot of effort into thier b

Plus don't forget that resurrection and polymorph removals and all that sort of thing keep treasure inflation down. If they run out of cash they'll have to hock some magical gear. If they can't come up with the dosh, have the cleric make them agree to undertake a quest in lieu of the extortionate pa...

Re: New Class - Friar

The differences are in the flavor and the crunch, though some powers/abilities are shared. Great Way Adepts are Eastern/Asian in flavor and have powers/abilities which are very "kung-fu movie". They don't get spell use at all. They have Thief skills. Friars are Medieval Europe in flavor, m...

Re: Game Culture

I agree neither New School nor Olde Schole is "better" than the other. They're ... different . I find I prefer the Olde Schole, purely because too much "crunch" has an annoying tendency to confuse my addled brain (character generation is a BITCH). I also find that crunch tends to...

Re: Are Magic-Users Too Weak?

I like the at-will cantrip effects. Interesting idea. Thank you! We shall agree to differ on your ringing hollow. Can fighters make time stop? Can they do 10d6 damage with a flick of the wrist and a pinch of guano? That's not the fighter sitting with thumb emplaced, either; the fighter still has his...

Re: Game Balance

I agree with Seandon4 that "game balance" is largely relative, and that "game balance" means a different thing to the current generation than it does to mine. I think that plays into the minor kerfuffle in which we found ourselves in the other thread, Diceclown. The problem with ...
