... the main method of getting XP was GP. I.E Treasure.
The implications on gameplay are rather different.
Sure you could kill things for XP, but monsters were the obstacles to the real rewards.

Re: GM's - how often to you "cheat?"
I will cheat and fudge - judiciously- to make a cool game. I am not out to get my players, but to challenge them.
But all combat/damage rolls are open. The players need to feel fear... the PCs are not invulnerable. And sometimes they die. Whether that's a perm death or not is another matter.

Re: Why crossbow over bow?
I see it as a standard weapon for NPCs who haven't spent a lot of time training. Or it first their cultural background. PCs usually choose bow. I do allow MUs to use a crossbow. But in practise, they try it, and discard it for something simple with a higher rate of fire, like a sling. It's easy to c...

I like the ritual provisions. I think it's ACKS that extends the range of effect and duration of spells cast ritually, which is cool.

MIght be my favorite class. They get pretty diverse, depending on pantheons and belief systems in play. I like settings with multiple gods and pluralistic conceptions of reality.

Just want to say I'm impressed by your generosity chiisu81.
I'm in Canada, mailing anything here would be silly money. But thanks for doing this.

Re: Seriously basic magic user question(s)
That's called free casting or open casting or open slots and is a fairly common variant in these kind of games. My game has free casting. It makes the casters much more flexible and relatively more powerful at lower levels. However, it may be more challenging at first to DM a group that has a lot of...

+1. It's a good idea. I have players from other editions/games and they might like it.
