Re: Barrowmaze + BFRPG - any tips?

Well, this is an old post and I'm even later to the Barrowmaze party, but I thought I'd try some thread necromancy to see if anyone has any thoughts now that we're in 2021.

Re: Low Strength Characters in Combat

That's a human, though, unless you went to a very interesting school. According to the core rules, halflings are three feet tall and weigh all of sixty pounds. That's very small, and they aren't usually described as a heavily muscled people. They're about the height of a 2 - 3-year-old human child a...

Re: Low Strength Characters in Combat

Oh man, love that movie. "... you really think you're an intellectual, don't you, you ape?" "Apes don't read philosophy." "Yes they do, Otto, they just don't understand it." Thanks for the rules clarification! To me, low strength fits a halfling. They are three feet tal...

Low Strength Characters in Combat

So, I've got a halfling thief with a 4 strength, giving her a -2 to all things melee, and with thrown weapons and sling damage as well. This is too bad because I can see her running around with her sling being deadly accurate, as she has a 16 dexterity. But let's say she lands a shot on someone with...

Re: Adding Character Levels to Monsters

As the GM, you do whatever feels right to you. The urge to over-document every possible rule is common, but I recommend resisting it... Seems wise! I'm thinking regular monster, plus additional hit dice for any character levels above said hit dice, then just add spells or thief abilities to taste. ...

Re: What are you listening to/watching/reading?

Reading: The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin (it's definitely an interesting read so far). Watching: The Divine Fury (if you're a fan of slightly predictable action/horror, it's pretty entertaining). Listening to: "North of No South" by Biffy Clyro (a Scottish rock band with some catchy tune...

Adding Character Levels to Monsters

Let's say a GM wants to spice up his monsters a bit by adding Character Levels, for example making an orc shaman or a vampire that is also a magic-user. It seems like a straightforward enough thing to do, but is there an official BFRPG way to do it? I don't see any thing in the rules (which doesn't ...

Re: Virtual Tabletop Games

I'd be curious to hear what platforms people have tried basic fantasy on. I've been interested in running a VTT game but I've never done it. I was active in PbP games over on Myth Weavers for many years and it was a lot of fun, but that's a slow medium. It took more than five years to get a Pathfind...
