Re: Discussing Introductory Modules from RPG Research

Hi there! We have been in Wenatchee more than once for our Washington State Therapeutic Recreation Association conference presentations there. Let us know if you are in the Spokane area and we can meet you at the RPG Community Center at 101 North Stone Street. :) Meanwhile, quick status update. I am...

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

if they serve a small publisher like Chris or myself papers - if they even attempt to bring a court case at all - it's not likely something we can afford to even fight. _IF_ that every happens, EFF is your ally! They helped organizations like merp.com and others defeat abuse of the DMCA and other l...

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

@Solomoriah, I don't know if you already are familiar with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF at eff.org), but they are very supportive of the RPG creators, especially since their roots go back to the US government harassment of Steve Jackson Games. More than once they have helped me and variou...

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

If the new RPG license stands the test of time, perhaps then it will be worth considering taking the chance? I mean sure, no one can say how this will go. But they're definitely going the right way about it, with plenty of input and feedback. What I like the most is that it's an RPG specific licens...

Maybe it's the old .com curmudgeonly grognard in me, but I have seen a lot of inventors, artists, and companies lose their IP even after paying millions to "experienced lawyers". :-)

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

Don't know if anybody's seen this: https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6si7v?Paizo-Announces-SystemNeutral-Open-RPG-License Paizo and a handful of other companies are designing a new system-neutral open, perpetual, and irrevocable RPG license. I know BFRPG is using CC, but this also looks prom...

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

In answer to your question, Hawke, I am the bottleneck. The production team can do a lot of the layout anymore (Chi is an expert) but I do covers and only I dare touch the creaky, cranky Core Rules document. I'm leaving it open on my screen from day to day because of how long it takes to stabilize ...

Re: Discussing Introductory Modules from RPG Research

An additional note here... 8.5" x 11" paperbacks are the cheapest kind. Since classic RPG books were that size, I gravitated directly to that size back in 2006, and that's why I don't publish any other size. Lots of people want me to do digest-size books but I just don't have the time to ...

Re: A Manifesto of Sorts, which is a Plan as well

Nope. I use Github for programming and I like it, but for formatted documents (given my constraints) it's not going to work. Ditto here. While we use it for our tech related projects like the BCI RPG, it has not been helpful for large documents and books. We've used Confluence (and recently evaluat...

Re: Discussing Introductory Modules from RPG Research

I prefer a single book for just one reason... cost. One large book is cheaper than two small books that total to the same page count. We are big advocates for financial accessibility, especially since our community programs work with so many populations that struggle significantly with finances. I'...
