Re: Wondering if Anyone Knows Hagakuri/Chris S?
His account was last active on the system November 28, 2019. However, his last actual post was in 2017. Can't tell you any more. I did send an email asking after his status. I managed to get into contact with him by finding an old board game forum, it looks like he stepped back from gaming after a ...

Wondering if Anyone Knows Hagakuri/Chris S?
There was a guy (*Chris S.*) who did some OSR gaming and used the handle **Hagakuri** on several of the old forums like Dragonsfoot and BFRPG. I used to run a game or two with him but I stopped hearing from him about 3/2018 after his wife said he'd gone to the emergency room and I haven't been able ...

Re: BFRPG v.s. Well, all the rest
BFRPG is kind of an odd duck among OSRs because it cleaves very closely to 'Original Edition Games' style rules (with some streamlining and OGL-reminiscent stuff thrown in) but unlike Swords & Wizardry, Labyrinth Lord and OSRIC it is not trying to emulate anything specifically. In simplicity it ...

Re: Morgansfort is a Meat Grinder, Good Introductory Modules?
I don't think any of your criticisms of Morgansfort are bad things. Cautious play leads to more survival. Long time since I checked in but I have two issues with this: If they play super-cautiously like an oldschool 1eHead, they'll never get anywhere. We simply did not have enough time in a session...

Morgansfort is a Meat Grinder, Good Introductory Modules?
I ran BF1 Morgansfort and it massacred my players time and again. Despite having 2-5 henchmen and 2-4 PCs at all times they routinely lost at least one person every dungeon delve. They weren't being overtly stupid or anything, but I play it straight and let the dice fall where they may. The problem ...

Re: Fair fight?
This current party wants to "duel" every villain. That would literally cause me to drop a game. I despise video game logic. My goal in D&D is to steal money and accomplish goals with a good cost/benefit ratio, not get into fights. If you've ever read Black Company novels by Glen Cook ...

Some Tips Using NPC Spells and Monster Abilities Effectively
Evil DM/Rational Caster Spell Tactics Sleep is very effective against low-level PCs. An entire party down, especially since many versions allow NO saving throw for characters below 4HD, And since players ALWAYS pick sleep if they can, and ALWAYS use it immediately on mobs I see no reason not to turn...

Re: Chris Gonnerman wrote about the meaning of AC, I guess?
I seem to remember a blog entry here, or an article somewhere else, where Chris Gonnerman (if I remember correctly) about the meaning of Armor Class. It was part of a discussion about different takes on Armor, and Chris said AC as a fixed value (say, a difficulty level to roll against) was a better...

Re: BF1 Nomenclature Error, 'Olde' Island Fortress
Yes, should have been a reply on BF1 thread in Workshop. To address both points: 1. Yes, it's inconsistent. But it likely won't be changed unless in the far-off day there's another print release made. 2. I've tested 2 PDF viewers and in my LibreOffice, and it looks OK. I have no idea why it's doing...

First Play & First Session of BF1 on Roll20
We played our first session of BF1: Morgansfort tonight on Roll20. I was the Dungeon Master, while my PCs this evening were run by some guys I found on Google+, Chris and Jason. No spoilers on this post, because my players might read it :-P As we had created characters beforehand we were able to get...
