Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide 3

The next monster shares similarities with Shadow, but while Shadow is a monster that dwells in darkness, this monsters is that darkness and therefore harder to notice; it's more appropriate for horror or weird adventures, or for when you want to make your players paranoid. Living Darkness* Armor Cla...

Re: noob questions about monsters

I usually don't roll for monsters' hp because it takes a little time, I assign an arbitrary value (each HD gives either 3, 4, 5 or 6 hp). In a trio of monsters of the same type, one is weak, ones is average and one is strong. If you need monsters for the PCs to fight but don't want to cause them dam...

Re: What's the AC of an animated armor?

You could take "Living Statue, Iron" (pg 101) and tweak it to suit what you want or need. I had considered the same option but then I realised that a statue is full and heavy, while an armor is empty and lighter. Not sure if that should mean anything or not. I don't want to sound as thoug...

What's the AC of an animated armor?

A plate armor gives 17 AC to its bearer, but if a wizard animates the armor, what should the Animated Armor's AC be? It can be 17, but 17 AC means that it's hard to damage the person inside the armor, not to hit the armor. Or it can be 11 because the Animated Armor is not wearing an armor. In this c...

Thank you, Chris. I don't think I have said it before but I really appreciate all of this. And the people here are nice, really nice.

Re: Complete tool for game masters

for a GM there is still much to keep track of and/or look up during the game (like everyones abilities, hit tables, what reach has a spell X, how many items does player Y carry and how much do they weight, does everyone still have enough food and water, money, etc. etc.). I know very little about p...

Re: 1st level Magic User

Later in the book, it talks about rest (‘ie. a good night’s sleep’ p16), but seems contradictory as implies that at 1st level I only need a 1 turn of rest...Is that right? Or is it ‘a good night’s sleep? Hi, I think you forgot to notice the brackets on p. 16. It says: "A Magic-User may only pr...

My mistake. Though I play a combination of Basic Fantasy and LotFP, using the new LotFP magic system, in which all spells are of level 1.

Fireball and HP as an abstraction

A thief is trying to recover an ancient artifact from a wizard tower. He arrives in an empty room and stands in the middle. There is a single door in front of him. The door opens. The wizard comes through and casts something. A little glowing pea flies from his finger and hits the thief's chest. The...

Re: Chris Gonnerman wrote about the meaning of AC, I guess?

The closest I could find: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1665&p=47528&hilit=damage+reduction#p47528 That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I though the meaning of AC was that the super-abstract combat mechanics of a multi-man miniature game's war units were inexplicably applied to one-o...
