Re: Croaker (Frog-men)

I don't like monsters as PCs. But I love Bullywugs. They are probably my favorite D&D monster.

Basic Fantasy already has the Wug in the Basic Fantasy Field Guide, but the more frog men, the better! And I love the name "Croaker".

GP as XP - does it change the way the game is played?

D&D Basic was my first RPG. I like the D&D Basic rule that gives players 1 XP for every 1 GP earned. You still get a little XP for killing monsters, but gaining gold is the main way for PCs to level in D&D Basic. Basic Fantasy does not give XP for GP by default, though it is mentioned as an alternat...

Re: Feedback for small addition to Fighters

I completely overlooked the possibilty to make the Specialization exclusive to the Fighter. Check out The Glain Companion free download on the Showcase page: https://www.basicfantasy.org/showcase.cgi It is a document of Chris Gonnerman's house rules, and having Specialization available only to the ...

Re: Feedback for small addition to Fighters

You can make it so Fighters, and only Fighters, get Weapon Specialization, Shield Specialization, and Armor Specialization as per the Combat Options supplement. I think this gives the Fighter a very nice boost, even when compared to Paladins and Rangers, if you are using such optional classes in you...

Re: The Glain Companion

I love this supplement. It can nicely function as a general "Basic Fantasy Companion" to expand upon the core rules. Its a clean and simple all-in-one document that almost turns Basic Fantasy into "Advanced Basic Fantasy", in a way. :) I've been a BFRPG fan for years, but somehow I've just discovere...

Re: Poison

Nobody has played an Assassin at our table yet, but here are my homebrewed poison rules for the class. I wanted scalable damage per level of the Assassin, rather than allowing 1st level Assassins to have an insta-death ability. Poison: Given an hour of brew time and the proper ingredients (costing 1...

Questions regarding identifying and selling magic items

Does anyone here have rules for what it would cost to identify a magic item? My PCs (a Fighter, a Cleric, and a Thief) found a scroll and a potion on an adventure, and they want to pay a local NPC Magic User to identify these items for them. What would it cost to do so? Also, if the PCs want to sell...

That art is amazing! Easily some of the best RPG art I've ever seen in any game.

Question about Rangers

Regarding the Rangers supplement on the Download page, it states that Rangers can move silently, hide, and track in wilderness areas, but they get a penalty when attempting these abilities in urban areas. What about within a dungeon? Would they get a penalty when trying these abilities in a dungeon,...
