Downloading the Documents
The many members of the Basic Fantasy Project are believers in sharing. They have created a
lot of material, and much of it is shared here on our website.
Our materials are broken up into three categories:
The Downloads Page
This page, right here. Our best stuff, complete, polished, and ready for action. The Core Rules, adventures, selected supplements, and handy forms and play aids. All items we have available in print should be on this page.
The Showcase
Click here! Our best authors, sharing their visions of the game. Items in the Showcase are generally complete, but may be less well tested, proofread, etc. Highly-rated Showcase items are chosen from time to time and moved to this Downloads page.
The Workshop
A section of our Forum. Any member of our forum may post his or her work in the Workshop. The Workshop has an "anything goes" atmosphere; materials shared there may be rough and/or incomplete, but if you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, there's a lot of good stuff there. Want to contribute, but don't have a specific idea in mind? Check the Workshop... you are likely to find one or more projects of interest to you that would welcome your contribution. Yes, there is a lot of stuff here; in some cases, we have more than one set of supplementary rules for a given situation. Don't panic. We recommend that beginning (or returning) Game Masters start with the core rules and one or more of the adventure series modules. Add supplementary materials and house rules later, after you and your players have experience with the game and know what you want from it. In the spirit of Open Source development, wherever possible we use truly free programs such as LibreOffice to create our materials. Most items below are distributed in LibreOffice as well as in PDF (Adobe Reader) format. If you just want to print out and use the rules, the PDF is probably what you want, but if you'd like to make changes you'll want the LibreOffice version. Some items have been submitted in other formats; such items are noted below where they appear.

With all the creatures detailed in the Core Rules and two Field Guides, sometimes it's hard to remember where to find a monster's statistics. This book is intended to help with that. The Monster Index lists every monster found in all three books, grouped and ordered by hit dice as well as by name, and gives the book and page where the monster's information can be located.

Release 31
The Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game core rules provide a handy list of weapons and equipment to get your party started. But what if it's just not enough, and you need more? Look no further! Here in this one volume you will find extensive lists of equipment, including weapons and armor, adventuring gear, vehicles, animals, and all sorts of trade goods. Also provided are optional rules for the use of some of these items, to further enhance your game.
Current OGL Print Release is R24. Current CC BY-SA release is R31.

Release 18
This is not a tome of random, disconnected individuals. To me, that would be fantasy on a level beyond the game this book is written for. While there are some high-functioning outliers and fringe individuals, there are also many friendships, families, organizations, rivalries, and other interpersonal dynamics.

This is the "regular" character sheet, designed for US standard Letter paper (8.5" x 11"), though the PDF will probably fit on A4 paper just fine (let Acrobat do the "shrink to fit" thing). This character sheet is available in a large number of translations.
Release 2 of this sheet includes revisions by James Lemon. The original sheet is retained for those who prefer it.

Release 2006.0
This sheet is designed to print out on ordinary notebook paper having 0.285" (or similar) rule widths. Probably it won't work for just any printer and just any paper... but you can probably tweak it to fit your paper and printer. In other words, some assembly required.

Version 1
Here's a nice ready-to-use character sheet by Steve Zieser, which prints out in landscape (sideways) orientation on standard letter-sized paper. Sorry, this is only available in PDF format at this time.

Version 2
Here's another ready-to-use character sheet, this one by Ray Allen, which prints out in landscape (sideways) orientation on standard letter-sized paper.

Version 2.1
This sheet, provided by Ray Allen, lists all the BFRPG Cleric spells with checkboxes.

Version 2.1
This sheet, provided by Ray Allen, lists all the BFRPG Magic-User spells with checkboxes.

Here's James D. Jarvis' character sheet, in portrait orientation for U.S. letter paper. This is a really handy sheet for play with kids, because the author has included page number references for each item. Versions compatible with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Edition print releases are available below, as well as a source document in Gimp XCF format for both 2nd and 3rd Edition.

This mapping paper is based on an old design from the 1980's. It provides a quarter inch square grid with doubled lines, so you can fill in walls between them.

Release 1
These sheets contain multiple rows of checkboxes, for use with random encounters. Just mark each monster's hit points by lining out the excess boxes (or in any other way that works for you), then check them off as they are hit the same as with any of our published adventures. The two sheets are in different formats so you can choose the one you prefer.
