Season 1 - Episode 2: Northridge Farm

OK, so you've arrived at Northridge Farm to find the place apparently deserted. Whilst the others wait at the farmyard gate, the two halflings have crept up to the house to investigate. The curtained windows make it difficult to see inside the house and, listening, no sound can be heard coming from within. There's nothing you can see in the fields surrounding the house that appears out of the ordinary.

You've got about 20 minutes of daylight left.

What's the plan?

since it's still daylight Doughbert moves to the front door. He looks fback at the other group members to see if they can see him clearly from the front door. If he's sire they can he makes a knocking motion to them and then a questioning look. He also attempts to are aware of Paladin's location.

Paladin frowns at the silent farmhouse with the curtains drawn. He eyes the placid farm animals appraisingly. His mind made up, he pivots quietly and throws his rock as hard as he can through the farmhouse window. He'll then duck back out of sight under the window.

shaking his head at the sound of the window breaking, Doughbert runs to the best hiding place he can find that lets him see the door easily.

Cursing under his breath, Tannen motions to the others who have stayed back from the farmhouse. "I don't know what that halfling is up to, but I think he just announced our arrival. Might be that nobody's home, but lets go and see."

Tannen will lead Jumbles down to the farmhouse, shield at the ready on his left arm. He'll scan around the farm for any sign of a response to the broken windon. If there is no response, once everybody is assembled he'll knock on the front door with a tentative "hello".

To GM: Is it the custom of this region that a stranger would be welcome to let themselves into a farm house? Or would such be considered a serious moral or criminal offence?

In keeping with his job of bringing up the rear, Karl stays 20 yards back, looking for those that might be looking at them while Sergeant Tannen takes the lead from the groups scouts.

Nivek continues to scan for trouble while keeping with the main party.
Assuming door is knocked on and opened, Nivek will peer in (darkvision) to see the state of things. Otherwise he remains cautious.

"WHAT THE BLAZES ..." erupts a cry from inside the farmhouse as Paladin's stone crashes through the window. "You might have taken me wife, but you ain't taking me" continues the gruff local accent amidst sounds of movement from within the house.

A few seconds later you hear the front door being unbolted from the inside. The door swings open to reveal a wild-looking man brandishing a crossbow. Without hesitation he fires at the main group standing in front of the house (Nivek, Tannen, Scathias and Karl). The crossbow bolt heads in the general direction of [Rolls] Scathias and [Rolls] misses spectacularly.

As he begins reloading his crossbow, a look of uncertainty grows across your assailant's face as he surveys his would-be kidnappers. He looks, frankly, terrible. A blood-soaked bandage is wrapped around his forehead, partially covering his greying hair, whilst his heavily-lined, weather-beaten face is deathly pale.

“I can see you’re not goblins, but who are you, what do you want, and why are you throwing stones at me windows?” he snarls.

It would be considered tresspass for a stranger to let themselves into another person house.

Whoa, tall one! Bertie Kirchener sent us out to hear your story, find your wife, and return with her hand. No need for the theatrics or violence. I mean you don't see us running up and poaching your sheep now, do you? says Paladin. Blame the elf for the rock; he's a fae one with all those trinkets in his tresses. You send the bill down to Bertie, and he'll make good the cost of repairs. Let's get you back inside and you can tell us of your missing bride, suggests Paladin.
