Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari

Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
Rostam will do whatever job the captain thinks he can do.
With no nautical experience, he is still eager to learn.
Since the party is out of food, fishing does seem like a good idea.
Has anybody tried eating one of the giant lizards yet?

Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
Rostam - Yes, the pirates and ship's crew ate numerous giant lizards they killed with guns in the early days on the beach. Your party also ate some dinosaur before you joined. General consensus is that it tastes like turkey.
Maju is fishing. Lines and some nets are assumed to be in the water as you are sailing today. You should be Okay, although the pirates do warn about marine dinosaurs. Just because you are off land doesn't mean you are totally safe...
The captain is naivigating by keeping an eye on the coast today. He does mention this about navigation to Maju:
Navigating by the stars could be strange work, here. I'm pretty sure I know roughly where we are, and that's where we should be, to the south west of Siam. But then some nights I look up and it's a different sky - not totally different, but you'd sure say we'd moved somehow. Don't mention this to any of the others, though...I don't think any of the ones still alive have noticed it...
Maju has no idea about the possible cause of this. He has gotten a new pair of guns and powder, as you you ask.
Will update tommorow. Feel free to post more RP overnight.

Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
Maju ponders the words of the captain regarding the night sky. Surprised that he hasn't noticed this already, he begins to take careful notes of the night sky and the positions of the brightest stars in order to see if there is a pattern to the odd observations.
Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
YC will sing an old Chinese sailing song.
Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
Unlike the captain, Maju has no previous experience in celestial observation but he is pretty smart, so he can start from now and see what happens, from tonight.
As he redcides to do this, he recalls that his mentor back in Kona once told him that Korinaki (the head of the school of magic, who disappeared many years ago) also spent much time star-gazing, especially in the days leading up to his decision to travel to Salaya.
Day 18 rolls on as the ship pushes northward beyond the reefs and then westward. At 2 in the afternoon, you are well out into deep water, near some rocky pinnacles which do not quite reach the surface.
Several people on the main deck spot a woman's head appear in the water nearby the pinnacles, as though she has just surfaced. She stares at the ship. Another woman appears beside her and also stares.
The pair are about 60 yards away from the side of the ship. You can react. Bear in mind the ship is moving pretty fast so you will soon be away from them.

Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
Did we ever heard legends about woman living in the waters or it is something totally new to us ?
Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
YC switches to a song about lost love.
Re: Chapter 5: All Aboard the Ark-Ari
You have all heard of mermaids and mermen. Stories of them are somewhat common around the islands of the more northlery parts, especially near Persia and the Near East, but not so much in the tropics. Sometimes they are hostile, sometimes not.

"Hey captain, have you seen these women in the waters ? Maybe we should ask them for any information about the area. Can you try to slow down a bit so we can talk to them ?"
