Here's a piece I did using Al Cook's method (inks, then a black colored pencil for the grayscale.) Not trying to ape his style (and his stuff is better), but appreciate the technical help. THANKS AL!!!!

This is an ancient giant's seat that the party is currently adventuring near.

Thanks Al. I bought a new sketchbook (a Make Market journal on sale at Michaels for $2.09, nice cartridge paper).

Thanks especially for the colored pencil hint, that really did the trick. Had my gray scale in no time.

The group will be at that seat this week, around 7:45 PM.

Thanks Ron, it was the black colored pencil that did it. I tried an alien later using only graphite to shade and couldn't get the same nice result.

Here's the alien, shaded with regular #2 pencil (it's just okay):

And this rat creature was shaded with ink wash and black colored pencil. Wanted to see how well the new sketchbook paper took to ink wash:

Stupid, stupid rat creatures.

The rat bear has a gaze attack that will paralyze you for 1d6 rounds, so maybe not complete fodder.

Now kobolds, that's a different story.
