When he's not being watched by his "superiors," Hamish does whatever he thinks is right, not necessarily what he was ordered to do. When he's reprimanded, he's always genuinely surprised that they find any fault with him.

His people are very independent, and only understand hierarchy in the most sketchy of ways. If he's able to beat you up, he's the boss... otherwise, you do what you want.

Hamish doesn't want to be boss. If you force him to punch you in the face, you better shut up afterward... or win the fight.

I just want to make sure I've got the right take on his hiring practices.
