Witch Hunter Class?

Post by teaman »

Have new player in my group, nice guy, though he started with a later edition. He would like a "Witch Hunter" type character. I noticed that KSmoot has a hunter class in his Quasi classes document, and I am thinking about just tweaking it a bit. It would be sorta like a ranger with a favored enemy.

Anyone have any advice or resources? Or any thoughts as to what a witch hunter really is?

Here is a post about a Witch Hunter Subclass but in my opinion is far from completed and needs a good amount of work

If one of my player asked I would probably use a modified cleric class, probably with something like that :
- no healing spells
- any weapons
- bonus to saves vs spells
- and then change the turn undead to something else ?

I would take the fighter route rather than the clerical one and go with a more generic name

Sub-fighter
Lesser armor access.
Probably lesser weapon access.
Higher defense against magic.
Chance to identify witches (see thru their glamour and such)

To me, the class should have something special besides some bonuses as to make it feel more than a core class with little extras.

Some "Unique power" ideas

Skilled Interruption
What about a bonus to attacks when they are specifically made to interrupt a caster? Like a bonus to hit (whether ranged or melee) equal to level if the target is in the process of casting or currently maintaining a spell.

Know Thy Enemy
Can identify what a spell or magical device can do. This includes identifying the spell that an enemy caster is preparing to cast. (not sure if this should be a percent roll skill, or a # per day ability)

Silence!
Can cast the lvl2 cleric spell Silence 15' but must always target themselves and only get a certain amount of castings per day based on level. (only problem here is that it effects the party's caster too.)
