A very well-done supplement! I go back and forth on having black powder and related weapons in my games. I can see it used in magical ways and perhaps for ship weapons, but I'm keen on hand-held weapons.

Looked over your replies last night, considered the ideas put forth, and spent the morning spitting this out... Release 2.

Whats new?

Lots of new Optional Rules: Armor penetration, Called shots, Deadly firearms*, Firearm inaccuracy, Pistol-whips and Rifle-butts, Ranged sneak attacks, and Volley fire. * Deadly firearms is a collection of four optional rules that try to emulate the lethality of firearms by different methods.

A new specialist: the mountain man.

Two monsters: Goblin grenadier and Hobgoblin musketeer (w/ notes on hobgoblins sharpshooters).

Along with minor edits and such. But man, it is such a pain trying to get the text right, keeping the tables intact, and making it look presentable without lots of white space.

Original post will be edited with the new files and a list on updates.

I like the way its going.

Minor question
POWDER AND SHOT wrote: The Crit Die: When making an attack roll with a firearm and you hit your opponent, roll a d8. If an 8 is rolled, you get to roll for weapon damage and get to roll the d8 again. You keep rolling until you stop rolling an 8. All extra weapon damage rolled is added together.
-- Variant Rule -- Variable Wild Dice: Different firearm types use a different die. Pistols use d6. Muskets, rifles, and swivel guns use d8. Blunderbusses, black powder grenades use d10. Any firearm not mentioned uses a d10.
This means using a different dice and having to roll and 8 (impossible with a d6) or having to roll for max valu (giving more chances to the ones using the lower dice).

How about using the 1 in 6 chances for game consistency? Use the d8 as a "medium value" and the use smaller dice for better chances and vice versa.

Alternative, if you like bigger dice meaning more chances require a 6 or better to be rolled, then start with the d6 and go up with the dice for better chances.

Fairly confident the OP means that you get exploding dice on a max roll on whatever die is called out.

Would be easier to understand if the target number was 1.

Solomoriah is right, the target number is always the maximum value of the die being rolled. Next time around I shall try to make it easier to read and understand.

black powder weapons have no place in AD&D or basic fantasy.

Agreed. I can agree to just about any particular content so long as it fits the setting or has some proper context.

I love this supplement, and will likely get play in my games.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Really? So you're saying that my Glain campaign shouldn't have blunderbuss-armed dwarves?
