Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
I don't think it needs an update on the copyright date. No point, really, we didn't change it that much.
So, since nobody else has a complaint at this point, I'm pushing it to Lulu.com and CreateSpace.com tonight. Lulu will be active immediately, but of course we'll have the usual 1 day delay on CreateSpace and Amazon.com.

New to the forum and to BFRPG, so i haven't read all the 69 discussion pages on this publication. Pardon if this has been asked before...
Page 16 "The spells the cadaver uses will typically include...3Rd level: Animate Dead"
Animate Dead is a 4th level spell; any feedback?

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
It's an error, obviously.
At present, it's the only error I'm aware of in the current Field Guide, so I probably won't make a new release just for that.

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
Ok then, thanks for the quick reply. I am planning on using this monster in a game but it looks like the Cadaver needs a re-write. For instance, Dispel magic is 4th level as well, and if it has "all the powers and spells of a 5th-level cleric"
how can it even cast 3rd level spells. I could say it is a 6 HD undead monster with all the powers and spells of an 8th-level cleric as one fix. It would certainly add to the difficulty of the encounter (maybe too much so). Or i could say it has all powers and spells of a 5th-level cleric but can cast Animate Dead as a special ability to sustain itself.
Other Suggestions?

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
Those observations are correct.
I would give it the powers of a 6th level priest and let it treat Animate Dead and Dispel Magic as 3rd level spells.
Maybe give it 7HD and be treated as a Spectre for turning attempts; otherwise a Cadaver is able to turn/command other Cadavers.
As the Cadaver is a "cleric-type" creature how about giving the saves of a Cleric?

Don't overthink it. If you run it the way it comes out of the box, it'll be fine.

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
Don't know if this count as an error or if it was addressed before: the corebook monsters have their damage expressed as one die per attacks whether the ones from the FG has an unique value
Example: N. of Attacks 2 claws or 1 bite.
Damage (Corebook) 1d4/1d4 or 1d6
Damage (Field Guide) 1d4 claws or 1d6 bite

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide
That comes from me, when I was lead on production/editing of the Field Guide. I was trying to decidedly clear about the attacks in a way that does not invalidate how things are done in the core rules or elsewhere. For most creatures this is plainly obvious with the attacks, but for a few the more clearly delineated entries helps (in my opinion anyway), and so I made this the standard for the Field Guide for consistency (at least there, if not in the Core Rules).Dimirag wrote:Don't know if this count as an error or if it was addressed before: the corebook monsters have their damage expressed as one die per attacks whether the ones from the FG has an unique value

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
